Eligibility Criteria
The fellowship is open to undergraduate students who meet the following criteria:
- Available to international students worldwide, regardless of their home country.
- Specifically open to undergraduate students.
- Students pursuing a three-year Bachelor’s Degree Program (e.g., in the UK) should be in their second year of study.
- Those enrolled in a five-year combined Bachelor/Master’s Degree Program must be in their third year of the program to be eligible.

- Two letters of recommendation
- A research statement that answers the following questions:
- How would a summer of research at WHOI benefit your education and career goals? (250 words max)
- What qualities and characteristics will you bring to the program as a result of your life experiences, jobs, and/or other activities? (200 words max)
- Have you previously been involved in research or other projects as part of your classwork, a job, or an internship? Give an example of where you have used learned skills or knowledge to solve a problem. (200 words max)
- What areas of marine research are you interested in and why? You may refer to a specific lab at WHOI or a general area. (200 words max)
